To make relatively smooth time lapse movies of clouds, use a time interval of 10 seconds or less. In the sample that follows, Chuck Wilcox from the Museum of Science used high quality video and computer software to create the time lapse sequence of this storm. The resulting movie is wonderfully detailed but too large to download, so a smaller version was created: 5.2 mb MOV
Notice how the clouds quickly change direction–twice! Once before the rain, and once after the rain, returning to the original direction of motion.
