What Will You See Using Infrared Goggles?

While wearing the IR goggles, human eyes still add "color" to the infrared. Since near infrared is close to red, our eyes will see objects reflecting infrared as red, and objects absorbing infrared will appear dark red to black.

In the top image on the right, which is what you would see wearing the near infrared goggles, notice that the sky is dark, but this is not because it is absorbing near infrared, rather, there is very little scattering by atmospheric particles, unlike blue light, which is scattered in the sky.

The image in the lower right is of the same scene but is showing only the red light reflecting from objects.
